3D Automated Catan
In Engineering design we have studios, for these studios,
we have an overarching project that we work on throughout
the quarter. For the Spring quarter of my freshman year, we
worked on making a 3-D Settlers of Catan board that offered
features to assist gameplay. Our group decided to divide and
conquer to play at all of our strengths. We had four members,
each with a unique strength that they brought to the table:
Will's was CAD/design, Colden's was code/electronics,
Harrison's was CAD/Woodworking, and mine was
marketing/artistic/CAD.
I did a lot of documentation and some of the more "artsy" things. The documentation included creating the template we used for the Memo and the template for our testing documentation. Some of the artsy things included creating the cards which followed the same generic format just used a simpler design and included words unlike the original Settlers of Catan cards. We also changed the colors of the player pieces so I designed player cards to match. I also designed a poster that talked about what we did as a group, how it worked, and what our process was like.
The Cards
To the right are some images of the cards. These were designed using Ibis paint. We printed them out on a sticker maker, attached them to cardstock then laminated them. Each of these cards use a hand-drawn image or a clipart and a border. I was able to make a generic layer for the boarder and change the color for each card.
Poster
The poster was created using Power Point. It uses a lot of colored boxes to get the effect of having borders even though it lays flat. It has the information gathered in a way to draw the viewer in without too much text or too many photos.
